Welcome to my new blog!

Hi everyone!

I’m Alexandra, and this is my art history blog. Thanks for reading.

I enjoy exploring the history of art and material culture because of what it can tell us about the lives of people from far-off places and times gone by, and maybe by extension about our life today. I became interested in viewing and reading about art at a young age, though it took me until college to realize I could do more with it than just reading books and going to museums (though I still enjoy doing quite a bit of both). I love to research because I love mysteries, no matter how small, and am willing to do as much as it takes to find the information needed to solve them. I enjoy venturing deep into the dusty corridors of history to find connections no one else has ever made before, and then I relish forming my theories, explaining them, and defending them just as much. Sometimes, I like to think of myself as a sort of art detective, which may sound corny but is also quite exciting and ties in nicely with my penchant for cop shows and my childhood preference for Boxcar Children books. Since I graduated from college in 2012, I have really missed having the regular opportunity to do scholarly work in art history. I currently work in fine art on a more commercial level. Though it involves quite a bit of research and writing, and I am quite happy with the work that I do, it just isn’t the same. So, I created this blog to encourage myself to take on some new research projects and as a place to share those projects with (hopefully) interested readers. I have a long list of topics that interest me, and I plan to explore them on this page in the near future.

If you are an art historian or just an art lover, I would really enjoy hearing about what interests you. What do you write about, or what would you like to know more about? I try to keep up with the goings on in the art world, but I can’t possibly read everything, so feel free to let me know what you’ve read or heard and what you think about it.
